Gundu Gundu Gulab Jamun

TASTY TASTY GULAB JAMUN

Gulab Jamuns are everyone's favorite right from Paati to Pethi. Preparing Gulab Jamuns also is easy and the end product is amazing to your taste buds and eyes.

People do this for Diwali and other important functions like New Year and Birthdays.

Preparation time: 20 minutes
Cooking Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients required:
  1. Instant Gulab Jamun mix- 1 packet (Kindly buy branded product to ensure taste)
  2.  Water
  3. Ghee or Refined oil to fry the jamuns
  4. Vanilla essence or the essence of your choice( some add gulkund or pineapple, but i strongly recommend vanilla)
  5. Yelakkai-2
  6. Saara paruppu-little
Procedure:
  • First mix the instant powder with water ( as per the instructions given in the packet) little by little to make a solid dough. Don't add extra water as it might make the dough soggy.
Note: You need not knead the dough as you do for chappathis, just mix it to form a lump.
  • Leave this for five minutes
  • Meanwhile prepare sugar syrup- equal parts of sugar and water, you might need nearly 1 kg of sugar for every packet of instant mix.Add some elaichi powder or vanilla essence to the syrup after switching off the stove
Note: The consistency of sugar syrup is very impoartant, neither too thin nor too thick.
  • Now roll the dough into small or medium, round or ellipsoidal balls as per your wish and fry them at low heat in 3's or four's in a small pan.
Note: If the heat is high the jamuns become very dark and give out a smoked smell.
  • Add the balls one by one to the syrup and spread the syrup over the balls evenly
  • Leave the setup for 30 to 45 minutes by which time the jamuns have soaked and puffed nicely in the syrup
  • Garnish with Saara paruppu or Kumkum or tutti fruities
  • Yummy gulab jamun is ready
  • Some 40 to 50 jamuns can be served from a packet
Tamil equivalents:
